Get ready, New Westminster โ your firefighters are back with one of the most smashing fall traditions around! The New Westminster Firefighters Charitable Society is rebranding last yearโs beloved Pumpkin Drop into the all-new Pumpkin Smash, and itโs set to be bigger, louder, and messier than ever. ๐ฅ
Last yearโs event saw over 300 pumpkins take the plunge and 500+ cheering spectators watch the action unfold. Firefighters hoisted pumpkins 100 feet up Tower 1, let gravity do its thing, and turned those gourds into glorious orange confetti. This year promises even more high-flying fun, family laughter, and pumpkin chaos! ๐
๐
When: Sunday, November 2nd โ 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
๐ Where: Fire Hall 1, 1 East 6th Avenue
๐ Parking: Available behind the tษmasษwtฬxสท Aquatic and Community Centre
๐ณ Donations: Contactless card payments accepted on-site
Families are encouraged to bring their post-Halloween pumpkins, watch them soar, and enjoy a smashing good time โ all while supporting local community charities. Itโs the perfect way to wrap up the spooky season with a bang (and a splat)! ๐๐ซ
A powerful story of Indigenous sovereignty and resilience is coming to the community this fall. On Saturday, October 25, 2025, residents are invited to a free screening of YINTAH, hosted by Amnesty International Canada at the Public Library Auditorium from 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The feature-length documentary follows Howilhkat Freda Huson and Sleydoโ Molly Wickham, two Wetโsuwetโen land defenders, as they lead a decade-long effort to protect their unceded territory from the Coastal GasLink liquified natural gas pipeline. Through powerful storytelling, YINTAH captures the challenges and courage behind their fight for land, culture, and the right to free, prior, and informed consent.
The event offers a meaningful opportunity to learn about the ongoing Wetโsuwetโen struggle, engage in thoughtful dialogue, and support the broader movement for reconciliation and Indigenous rights across Canada.
