Grab your running shoes and get ready for one of New Westminsterโs most anticipated community events. Steel & Oak Brewing Co. is bringing back the Queens Park Classic on Saturday, April 4, 2026, as part of the S&O Beer Run Race Series.
Now in its fourth year, this lively 5K run invites participants of all levels to experience the beauty of Queenโs Park along a scenic course that blends road and trail terrain. Runners will pass through forested pathways, enjoy views of the surrounding mountains, and tackle a short but spirited hill along the way.
The Queens Park Classic is more than just a race. The event proudly supports KidSport New West, helping local kids gain access to sports programs and stay active in the community.
Once runners cross the finish line, the celebration continues. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Steel & Oak will host a festive post-race beer garden featuring craft beer, BBQ, and non-alcoholic drinks. Awards will be given to the top three finishers in the male, female, and non-binary categories, and all participants will have a chance to win prizes through a race raffle.
Whether youโre racing, cheering, or just enjoying the atmosphere, the Queens Park Classic promises a fun-filled afternoon in the park.
A quick report and fast police work helped recover a stolen purse in New Westminsterโs Uptown neighbourhood earlier this month.
On March 14, a New Westminster Police Department officer on patrol was approached by a woman who said her purse had just been stolen from her seat at a local coffee shop. The officer immediately went inside to speak with staff and review CCTV footage, leaving the shop with a detailed description of the suspect.
Less than an hour later, police located and arrested a person matching the description. The stolen purse was recovered and returned to its owner.
โThis underscores the importance of reporting a crime as soon as possible,โ said Sergeant Andrew Leaver. โThe officer was able to work quickly and locate the suspect while he was still in the area.โ
Police say purse thefts often happen quickly, and victims sometimes donโt realize their belongings are missing until much later. By that time, suspects may have already left the area.
The department is reminding the public to keep a close eye on their belongings and to report suspicious activity or theft immediately.
