Drivers who regularly cross the Queensborough Bridge (Highway 91A) should expect overnight traffic changes as a major rehabilitation project gets underway.

Beginning in spring 2026, the Province will start a major renewal of the Queensborough Bridge, which spans the Fraser River in New Westminster. The project will focus on extending the life of the bridge and improving safety for both drivers and pedestrians.

During construction, nighttime lane closures will occur in both directions between 9:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. (until 8 a.m. on weekends). To reduce disruption, one lane will remain open in each direction, though motorists may still experience some congestion early in the evening shift.

Work on the bridge will include deck resurfacing, joint repairs, drainage upgrades, and concrete repairs, as well as improvements to the sidewalk.

The project is expected to continue through fall 2027, with Kingston Construction Ltd. awarded the $20.8 million contract.

Young goalkeepers in New Westminster have a chance to sharpen their skills this spring with the New Westminster Soccer Club’s Goalkeeper Development Academy.

The program is open to boys and girls ages U8 to U18 who want to build confidence and improve their performance between the posts. Led by NWSC Technical Coaches, the weekly sessions will focus on key goalkeeper skills such as handling, diving, footwork, spatial awareness, and throwing and distribution.

Sessions run Fridays from April 10 to May 29, 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The program fee is $175, which includes a goalkeeper shirt.

Spots are limited, and the registration deadline is April 3.

Whether players are new to the position or looking to take their game to the next level, the academy offers a great opportunity to train and develop their skills in a supportive environment.
