A swift response by New Westminster Police led to the arrest of a woman suspected in a break-and-enter incident that took place late Thursday afternoon. The incident unfolded just after 5 p.m. on October 2, when officers were called to an apartment in the 700 block of Hamilton Street. A resident reported discovering an unknown woman inside the home. When confronted, the intruder allegedly assaulted a witness before fleeing the scene.
Thanks to detailed descriptions provided by alert witnesses, officers were able to locate the suspect roughly 40 minutes later near 6th Street and 3rd Avenue. She was arrested without incident.
During the arrest, police discovered that the woman was wanted on three outstanding warrants. She was also found in possession of several identification cards belonging to other individuals. Authorities believe she may be connected to a string of recent break-and-enter investigations in the area.
The suspect remains in custody, and charges are expected to be recommended to Crown Counsel. The investigation is ongoing.
Police are commending the community for their quick action and urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Authorities emphasize that immediate calls to 9-1-1 can make a crucial difference in preventing or resolving crimes in progress.
