New Westminster will have several road closures in place on Wednesday, November 11, to accommodate the city’s Remembrance Day ceremonies.
From 6 a.m. to 1 p.m., closures will affect the following roads:
Royal Avenue: Eighth Street to Third Street
Sixth Street: Third Avenue to Cunningham Street
Queens Avenue: Seventh Street to Fourth Street
Additional parking restrictions will be in effect from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m., so drivers should allow extra time and check their usual parking spots before travelling.
An accessible parking and passenger pickup and drop-off area will be available on Royal Avenue, east of Seventh Street.
Drivers heading toward the stal̕əw̓asəm Bridge via Royal Avenue will be detoured to Eighth Street and Sixth Avenue. Trucks travelling to Surrey are advised to use the Port Mann Bridge instead.
Whether you’re attending the ceremony or simply travelling through New Westminster, expect traffic changes and plan ahead to avoid delays.
📍 Reminder: Follow posted detour signs and allow extra travel time on November 11.
🚌 Better shelter from the rain is on the way for New Westminster transit riders!
The City of New Westminster is preparing to replace 50 existing bus shelters beginning in early November, with Pattison Outdoor carrying out the upgrades across the city.
But there’s a temporary catch: existing shelters will be removed before their replacements are installed, meaning some bus stops may be without shelter for one to two weeks. Riders are encouraged to watch for signs posted at affected stops for updates during construction.
More improvements are also planned for early 2027, when shelters will be added at 14 additional bus stops. According to the City, these additions will increase the number of bus shelters across New Westminster by nearly 30%.
The shelter replacement program is part of a longer-term effort to improve transit stops and provide riders with more protection from the elements, especially during the region’s wet winter months. Pattison Outdoor is expected to continue installing additional shelters over the following years.
In the meantime, commuters may want to plan ahead for temporary shelter gaps and check stop signage before heading out.
The City thanks residents for their patience as the work gets underway.
