Ride to Fireworks + Virtual Waiting Room

Cyclists are invited to join HUB-New Westminster for a free guided bike ride to Vancouver's Summer Lights Fireworks, offering a scenic group ride from New Westminster to Vanier Park on Friday, July 31.

Participants will meet at Century House (620 Eighth Street) at 6:30 p.m., with the ride departing promptly at 6:45 p.m. The round trip covers approximately 50 kilometres and is expected to last about 6.5 hours, including time to watch the fireworks and scheduled rest stops.

The route follows designated cycling paths, including the BC Parkway, 10th Avenue Corridor, Ontario Bikeway, and Ridgeway Bikeway. Riders may also join the group later at Central Park in Burnaby or John Hendry Park (Trout Lake) in Vancouver if they prefer not to start in New Westminster.

The ride is open to both traditional and electric bicycles, with organizers maintaining a relaxed pace of 10 to 12 km/h to ensure no participant is left behind. Riders must wear a helmet, use bicycles equipped with front and rear lights, and agree to HUB Cycling's liability waiver.

Following the fireworks, participants will regroup before beginning the return trip, as large crowds are expected around Vanier Park. The event is free, but advance registration is required.

💻 Virtual Queue Introduced for New Westminster Recreation Registration

New Westminster is introducing a virtual waiting room for Fall 2026 Parks and Recreation registration, aiming to improve the online registration experience during periods of high demand.

The new feature will be available through the City's third-party online registration platform and will automatically place users in a virtual queue if a large number of people attempt to access the system at the same time. Once space becomes available, users will be directed into the registration system to complete their course selections.

To help ensure a smoother registration process, the City recommends that participants have their course codes ready, prepare backup program choices, and log in between 9:50 a.m. and 9:59 a.m. on registration day.

The virtual waiting room is designed to better manage peak traffic and provide a more organized experience for residents registering for popular recreation programs and activities.
