The Fraser River Discovery Centre is bringing RiverFest back to New Westminster for its 24th year, inviting the community to celebrate the Fraser River through free, family-friendly activities, exhibits and hands-on experiences.

This year’s festival will take place across September 19, 26 and 27, with a lively mix of live performances, exhibits, an exhibitor expo and artisan market, plus the popular Lucille Johnstone Workboat Parade.

The opening day on Saturday, September 19 offers a chance to explore the river and its surrounding environment through a series of walks and workshops. Visitors can join an Indigenous plant walk, learn about forest health and ecology, explore the New Westminster Quayside on a guided tour, or discover aquatic animals living in urban environments.

Activities on September 19 run throughout the day, with sessions taking place at the New Westminster Quayside and Mundy Park. Space is limited and pre-registration is required for the walks and workshops.

RiverFest is a wonderful opportunity for families, nature lovers and curious locals to connect with the river and discover more about the environment, communities and activities that surround it.

RiverFest takes place Saturday, September 19, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 788 Quayside Drive. Admission is free.

Photography enthusiasts of all experience levels are invited to explore New Westminster through the CAPA Coast-to-Coast Photo Walk on Saturday, September 19.

The free community event, hosted locally by the New Westminster Photography Club, will take participants along the riverside path at Sapperton Landing, offering plenty of opportunities to capture the Fraser River, the New Bridge and Old Bridge, boats, tugboats, wildlife and reflections.

Participants will also have the opportunity to photograph inside the Vancouver Wooden Boat Society workshop, where skilled craftspeople and their tools will provide unique subjects for photographers. Access to the workshop is being arranged with permission.

Whether using a professional mirrorless camera, vintage film camera or smartphone, everyone is welcome to join the casual photo walk and connect with fellow photography enthusiasts.
