Drivers and transit riders in New Westminster’s West End should plan ahead as the closure on Sixth Avenue between 18th Street and 20th Street has been extended until April 20.

The extension comes after contractors discovered unexpected infrastructure during excavation work related to the West End Sewer Separation and Watermain Replacement Project. Additional time is needed to safely complete the sewer separation work.

A full road closure will remain in effect 24/7 while construction continues. Bus routes #101 and #155 will be temporarily re-routed via Eighth Avenue, and vehicle detours will be in place. Some on-street parking in the area will also be temporarily removed to accommodate the work.

Traffic control personnel and signage will remain on site to guide drivers, pedestrians, and transit users safely through the area.

Residents and commuters are encouraged to plan extra travel time and follow posted detour signage while the project is completed.
