👮 Suspect Arrested in Columbia Square Pepper Spray Robbery 🚨 

New Westminster police have arrested a suspect in connection with a violent robbery in Columbia Square last month.

On July 7, 2025, a man attempting to sell an iPhone was attacked with pepper spray and paid with counterfeit cash before the suspect fled in a white Tesla. Police investigators, working closely with the department’s Forensic Identification Unit, traced the suspect and took him into custody on August 6 around 11:30 p.m.

The investigation received additional support from the Abbotsford Police Department, whose information helped advance the case. Authorities are now examining whether the suspect may be linked to similar crimes in the area.

Police are reminding residents that buying and selling goods in person carries inherent risks and recommend using their CCTV-monitored front lobby as a safe meeting point for such transactions.

 🧑‍🎓 New West Families to Celebrate Summer’s End with BBQ and Graduation 🍡 

Mark your calendars, New West! On Wednesday, August 27, 2025, the heart of our community will be gathering at Queen’s Park from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for one of the year’s most joyful traditions — the Annual Summer BBQ and Kindergarten Graduation. 🎓🌭

It’s a chance to say goodbye to summer in the best way possible: together. Families with children aged 0–6 are invited to enjoy the drop-in crafts and games we all know and love, followed by a heartwarming ceremony celebrating those little ones heading off to kindergarten this September. Expect plenty of smiles, a few happy tears, and a lot of proud moments.

And yes — there’s food! New West Family Place will be serving up a free BBQ lunch, complete with meat or veggie hot dogs, crisp veggies, fresh fruit, and refreshing drinks. All you have to bring is your appetite and your community spirit.

Space filled up fast this year, but if you missed out, you can still email the organizers to see if there’s room to squeeze you in. Here’s to good food, great company, and celebrating milestones together. 💛
