Saint Mary’s Park is about to get a lively new look! The park’s central lawn, which has struggled for years with worn grass and compacted soil, is being transformed into a vibrant artificial turf space designed for year-round use.

This upgrade means no more muddy patches in the winter or dusty bare spots in the summer. Instead, the community will enjoy a resilient, all-weather surface built to handle everything from casual play and family picnics to neighborhood gatherings. The turf is specially designed for playgrounds and recreational spaces, making it a long-term, sustainable choice that will keep the park looking green and inviting in every season.

Construction began on Thursday, August 21, 2025, and crews are aiming to complete the project by September 4, 2025. The lawn will remain fenced off during this short window, but once the work wraps up, Saint Mary’s Park will welcome residents back with a refreshed centerpiece ready for countless activities.

With this upgrade, the park’s most popular spot is set to become even more enjoyable, giving the community a dependable green space to gather, play, and relax all year long.

What began as an ordinary evening in Queensborough turned violent on Boyd Street, where a man was assaulted and robbed by two strangers, sending him to the hospital and sparking a police investigation.

The incident occurred on August 24, around 9:30 p.m., near the ICBC lot. Officers arrived to find the victim suffering from a head injury and bleeding. Police say he had been struck, punched, and kicked before the suspects stole his belongings. The attackers were not known to him.

Despite assistance from the Integrated Police Dog Service, officers were unable to locate the suspects. The injured man was transported to Royal Columbian Hospital for treatment.

Investigators are now canvassing the area for surveillance footage and speaking with witnesses. Police are urging anyone with information, including dashcam or security video from the area, to contact the New Westminster Police Department at 604-525-5411.
