Residents are invited to attend a special community announcement featuring New Westminster Progressives mayoral candidate Daniel Fontaine and Queensborough parent advocate Don Doyle.

The event will take place Sunday, March 1, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Boston Pizza in Queensborough (805 Boyd Street). Doors open at 1:45 p.m., and free parking is available.

Doyle, a parent and active member of the local Parent Advisory Committee, has been a vocal advocate for protecting the Queensborough school bus system, which is facing potential funding cuts as of June 30. Organizers say the announcement will focus on issues impacting local families and students.

Community members are encouraged to attend and hear directly from Doyle and Coun. Fontaine. Seating is limited and advance RSVP is required. Coffee, tea, and other non-alcoholic beverages will be served.

The New Westminster Police Department’s Street Crime Unit has seized a significant quantity of pills, drugs, and cash as part of an ongoing drug trafficking investigation.

The investigation began in January, with officers working in collaboration with another regional policing agency. As part of the probe, police executed a search warrant at a property in the Queensborough neighbourhood.

Police say drug trafficking — and the violence often associated with it — will not be tolerated in the city. Investigators warn that those involved in illegal activity should not assume they are operating unnoticed.

The investigation remains ongoing.
