Scams are getting more sophisticated — but knowing what to look for can make all the difference.

A Scam and Fraud Awareness Seminar is coming to New Westminster on Friday, May 1, offering a practical and approachable way to learn how to protect yourself and your information.

Hosted at The Image of God Church, this in-person session will walk participants through common scam tactics, how to recognize warning signs, and what steps to take to stay safe in everyday situations.

Whether it’s phone scams, online fraud, or unexpected requests for money, this seminar is designed to help you feel more confident, informed, and prepared.

💡 Expect:

  • Real examples of common scams

  • Simple tips to spot red flags

  • A chance to ask questions and learn from others

With fraud on the rise, events like this play an important role in helping New West residents stay aware and look out for one another.

A week of creativity is coming to New Westminster, and it is all about what matters most.

The “Favourites” Exhibition, hosted by New West Artists, runs from April 27 to May 3 at the Gallery at Queen’s Park, celebrating the people, places, and moments that inspire us through art.

This community driven exhibit brings together local artists and makers to share personal stories, handmade work, and creative expression in a welcoming gallery space.

But it is more than just an exhibition.

Throughout the week, visitors can:

  • 🎨 Join hands on art workshops

  • 🤝 Meet local artists and hear their stories

  • 🛍 Explore a vibrant vendor market and opening night on April 28

Whether you are creating, browsing, or simply taking it all in, there is something happening every day.

🌟 Highlights

  • Opening Night & Art Market: April 28, 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.

  • Workshops all week including painting, printmaking, felting, and more (registration required)

  • Gallery Hours: Wednesday to Sunday, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

From spring inspired paintings to recycled art and mandala workshops, each session offers a chance to learn something new and connect with the local arts community.
