🚓✨ Student Police Academy Returns—Calling Curious Teens in New West!

Curious about what it really takes to be a police officer? The New Westminster Police Department is once again opening the doors to its popular Student Police Academy, offering teens a behind-the-scenes look at life in law enforcement. Applications are now open, with a deadline of January 7.

Designed for students aged 16 to 18, the week-long academy runs March 16 to March 20, 2026, and promises a hands-on, eye-opening experience. Participants will train alongside professionals, take part in scenario-based simulations, learn about physical conditioning, self-defence, and firearm safety, and explore the many roles policing plays in the community.

Beyond skills and simulations, the program focuses on core values like integrity, service, accountability, and professionalism—qualities that matter both on and off the job. Students must be committed to attending the full week and supporting a respectful, inclusive learning environment.

For teens thinking about a future in policing—or simply eager to learn more—this is a unique chance to step into the role and see what it’s all about.

🌱📊 New West Farmers Market Seeks Volunteer Treasurer to Join Board

The New West Farmers Market is inviting community-minded residents to step into a leadership role as the organization looks for a new Treasurer to join its Board of Directors. This volunteer position offers a meaningful way to support one of New Westminster’s most loved community institutions while helping guide its financial health and long-term sustainability.

The role requires a commitment of approximately 10 to 15 hours per month and includes attending monthly board meetings. Ideal candidates will have a background in accounting, finance, or related experience, an interest in local issues, and familiarity with the New Westminster community.

In line with its commitment to equity and inclusion, the market strongly encourages applications from individuals who identify as members of historically marginalized or underrepresented groups, and applications from these communities will be prioritized.
