🌺 New West’s Ultimate Island Vibe After-Party! 🍹🌴

When the sun sets on Friday’s on Front, the real party takes off at Tropic Like It’s Hot — the official after-party that promises to turn downtown New Westminster into a sizzling, tropical escape. 🌞

🎉 Happening Friday, August 22 from 9 PM to 2 AM at The Metro Hall (759 Carnarvon Street), this 19+ event by Pink Powered Events brings full-on vacay vibes — no passport required.

Expect palm fronds, flamingos, inflatable parrots, raffia décor, and a thatched bar pouring three custom tropical cocktails, ice-cold beer, and fruity summer sips. Yes, there will be drink umbrellas. Yes, pineapples too. And yes — a FREE flaming s’mores bar to fuel your dance floor energy. 🍍🔥

Arrive early for your tropical lei, strike a pose in the Tropic Like It’s Hot photo zone, and catch a high-energy performance from the ever-iconic Justin Abit, keeping things steamy all night.

🎶 DJs will spin a sun-soaked mix of tropical house, Latin beats, disco throwbacks, and Top 40 hits. Think: "Girl from Ipanema" to "Levitating", and everything in between.

Dress bold, bright, or beachy — it’s your summer staycation right here in New West! 🎟️ No refunds, so grab your tickets and get ready to dance, sip, and celebrate under the (indoor) palms.

⚡ Suspect in Queensborough Assault Safely Arrested After CEW Deployment

A tense situation in New Westminster’s Queensborough neighbourhood was brought under control swiftly and safely thanks to sharp community awareness and quick action by police.

Just after 9:30 p.m. on July 31, a pedestrian heard glass shattering and spotted an assault unfolding inside a nearby home. The bystander immediately called 9-1-1, prompting New Westminster Police officers to respond quickly to the scene.

Upon arrival, officers tried to communicate with those inside the house. Moments later, a man emerged from the back door, visibly covered in blood. Despite officers’ commands and attempts to de-escalate, the man moved toward them and refused to comply.

To prevent further harm and ensure public safety, police deployed a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW)—specifically, the Axon Taser 7. The CEW allowed officers to bring the situation under control and arrest the man without injury to anyone involved.

This particular CEW model includes two cartridges, enabling a second attempt if the first dart fails. Police confirmed that this feature played a key role in the safe resolution.
