Suspicious Door Markings + 2026 Utility Notice

Residents in New Westminster are being urged to stay alert after suspicious glue markings were discovered on apartment doors in a multi-family building in the 200 block of 11th Street.

According to police, residents noticed small strands of glue placed between apartment doors and their frames across nine different floors. The markings were discovered after residents read about a similar tactic described in a recent Vancouver Police Department advisory.

In that case, suspects reportedly used small strands of glue between a door and frame to determine whether a unit was occupied. If the glue strand remains intact, it may signal that no one has opened the door — potentially indicating the apartment is vacant and could be targeted for a break-in.

Police say the situation highlights the importance of residents staying informed and communicating with neighbours about potential safety concerns.

Officers attended the building and are reviewing the circumstances surrounding the discovery. Residents are encouraged to watch for unusual materials such as glue or tape near their doors and report any suspicious activity.

📬 2026 Utility Bills Mailed to New Westminster Residents

New Westminster residents should check their mailboxes — the City has mailed out the 2026 annual utility bills.

These flat-rate utility statements, sent in late February, cover essential city services including water, sewer, and solid waste collection. The annual billing system allows residents to pay for these services in a single statement each year.

Residents who wish to receive the discounted rate must ensure their bill is paid in full by Monday, May 4, 2026. The City notes that the deadline applies regardless of whether or not a physical bill has been received, so residents are encouraged to check their accounts if their statement has not yet arrived.

The City offers several convenient payment options to make settling your bill easy. Payments can be made through online banking, by credit card, by mail, or in person at City Hall.

Residents can also view their bill, check account balances, and manage their utility account online through MyCity, the City’s secure digital service portal.

Paying early ensures residents can take advantage of the available discount and avoid missing the deadline.
