This month, the New Westminster Police Department has redeployed officers to place a stronger focus on the Downtown neighbourhood. This move comes in direct response to both rising crime statistics and growing concerns from residents and local businesses.

🚨 What the Numbers Say:

According to April’s data, crime is on the rise downtown:

  • Robberies have seen a 133% increase compared to April of last year

  • Thefts have jumped by 117% year-over-year

  • Mischief-related incidents are up by 15%

In addition to these stats, the department has received a wave of letters, emails, and messages from the public calling for a more visible police presence in the area.

👮 What’s Being Done:

In response, officers are being strategically shifted to the downtown core with the goal of:

  • Increasing visibility and patrols

  • Providing support to those who live and work in the area

  • Taking proactive steps to deter and address criminal activity

The department is committed to working alongside the community to restore a sense of safety and calm downtown.
