Police were called to New Westminster Secondary School on Monday afternoon following reports of a potential threat.

At approximately 2:00 p.m. on April 20, the New Westminster Police Department responded to a 9-1-1 call involving a group of youths allegedly making threats of violence toward another individual at the school.

Officers attended immediately, working to locate those involved, speak with witnesses, and gather evidence. Police say the investigation is still in its early stages and they are working closely with school administration.

Authorities believe the situation to be isolated to a specific group, though a continued police presence may be visible at the school as the investigation progresses.

No further details have been released at this time.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact NWPD at 604-525-5411. Support is also available through the Victim Assistance Unit for those affected.

Arts New West is now accepting applications for its 2027 monthly exhibition program at The Gallery at Queen’s Park, a community space that highlights local and emerging artists.

Running from January 2027 to January 2028, selected artists will have the chance to present their work in a welcoming, community driven gallery that brings art closer to the public.

Exhibitions typically:

  • Open on the first Wednesday of the month

  • Close on the last Sunday of the month

This is more than just an exhibit. Artists are invited to be part of the experience by:

  • Hosting the space as a Gallery Attendant on weekends

  • Leading a public program such as an artist talk, workshop, or live demo

The call is open to artists of all backgrounds. You do not need to be a member to apply, but selected artists will be required to join.
