More stages, more performers and two days of free entertainment are taking over Uptown New West this Labour Day weekend.
Uptown Live is closing out its expanded 2026 Summer Series with a big weekend of music, dance and cultural celebration on September 5 and 6. Saturday’s expanded Cultural Fusion day will feature four stages and 15 performers, with live entertainment popping up throughout Uptown New Westminster — and admission is completely free.
Saturday’s lineup includes performances at Uptown Plaza, JJ Bean, Rocky Point Ice Cream and Beem Plaza, with the 700 block of Sixth Street also joining the festivities. Uptown Plaza will feature a bigger stage and production setup, including an hour-long headline performance by Aaron Wong & The Del-Fi Destroyers: Elvis Tribute. Over at Mi Tierra Latina, the music will be joined by a special two-year anniversary celebration, with deals and discounts along the sidewalks.
Then on Sunday, September 6, the party continues with eight performers across three stages at Uptown Plaza, JJ Bean and Royal City Centre Plaza.
Whether you're grabbing coffee, meeting friends, shopping or simply looking for something fun to do, Uptown Live is giving New West plenty of reasons to wander Uptown this weekend.
🎟️ Free admission | All ages welcome
👻 Unsettled Spirits Premiere
Former New Westminster resident Amanda Quill takes the lead in Unsettled Spirits
A new paranormal television series has a strong New Westminster connection, thanks in part to former local resident Amanda Quill.
Unsettled Spirits follows two spiritually gifted Indigenous investigative teams as they explore hauntings, poltergeist activity and mysterious entities. Investigators Amanda Quill and Jesi Whitton lead their teams using a combination of traditional knowledge, spiritual connections and modern investigative technology.
Quill, who previously lived in New Westminster and now calls Vancouver home, is already well known to us for another reason.
I had the pleasure of meeting both Amanda Quill and Robb Demarest, who are among the top detectives in our game, How Well Do You Know New West? Their impressive knowledge of the Royal City has always stood out — and now, with several episodes of Unsettled Spirits reportedly taking place in New Westminster, we may have a little more insight into why they know the city so well.
The first episode of Unsettled Spirits takes viewers to Funky Winker Beans, the famous dive bar in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.
The investigation centres partly on a resident living in the hotel above the bar who has experienced what he believes is a dark and heavy presence in the building. His time living there has also brought him close to considerable loss connected to addiction and death in the neighbourhood.
As Quill and her team investigate, they experience significant unexplained activity and come to believe that spirits may still be trapped inside the building.
The team then faces the difficult task of understanding why those spirits remain and whether they can be helped to move on.
The premiere is only the beginning of the show’s local connections. Several episodes in the first season reportedly take place right here in New Westminster, meaning local viewers may recognize some familiar locations as the series unfolds.
For those of us who know Amanda through How Well Do You Know New West?, seeing her take centre stage in a television series exploring some of the region’s most mysterious places adds an especially fun local connection.
And perhaps we finally know the secret behind those detective scores.
