Launched in 1937 and retired in 1980, the Samson V is now a cherished heritage site where visitors can explore the engine room, galley, and decks that once kept the Fraser navigable. It’s a hands-on history experience perfect for families, history buffs, and curious explorers of all ages.

An attempted iPhone sale turned violent in New Westminster on the evening of July 7, when a man was pepper sprayed after confronting a suspected scammer. The incident occurred around 5:18 p.m. at Columbia Square, where the victim had arranged to meet a buyer through an online marketplace.

According to police, the victim handed over the phone but was given counterfeit cash in return. Realizing the deception, he pursued the suspect on foot. During the chase, the suspect sprayed the victim with pepper spray and escaped in a white Tesla driven by another individual.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian male between 18 and 20 years old, approximately 5'5" tall, weighing around 120 pounds, with short brown hair. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie, black pants, and black running shoes.

The New Westminster Police Department is actively investigating the case and is asking for assistance from the public. Anyone with CCTV footage from the Columbia Square area around the time of the incident is urged to contact investigators.

Police are also reminding residents that while online platforms like Facebook Marketplace are widely used, they can present safety risks. For safer exchanges, the public is encouraged to use the police department's front lobby, which is monitored by surveillance cameras.
