Want the ultimate summer side quest? Downtown New Westminster is officially recruiting volunteers for the return of Fridays on Front 2026 — and organizers promise a summer filled with street festival energy, food trucks, music, and unforgettable community vibes.

Hosted by Downtown New Westminster, Fridays on Front, and Tourism New Westminster, the popular waterfront festival series is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help support this year’s events taking place throughout July and August.

Volunteers will assist with festival operations while gaining hands-on experience in event planning, marketing, and community engagement. Perks include complimentary food truck snacks, networking opportunities with local businesses, volunteer references, and an honorarium after each event.

Organizers say the program is perfect for students, creatives, and anyone looking to build experience while becoming part of one of New Westminster’s most exciting summer festival teams.

Festival dates include July 10, 17, 24 and August 7, 14, and 21, with volunteer shifts running from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.

SkyTrain service was temporarily disrupted Tuesday evening after police responded to reports of a man appearing to carry a handgun near New Westminster SkyTrain Station.

According to the New Westminster Police Department, officers were called to the parking garage beneath the station near Carnarvon Street at approximately 8 p.m.

Police say the individual was taken into custody and was later found to be carrying a replica firearm in a holster along with ammunition magazines. The man was transported to hospital for treatment before later being released.

As officers responded to the situation, SkyTrain service in the area was briefly halted as a safety precaution.

No injuries were reported, and police have not released additional details about possible charges or the circumstances surrounding the incident.
