Plan your route and allow extra travel time

Residents in the West End should plan ahead as Sixth Avenue will be closed between 18th Street and 20th Street starting Monday, January 19, to allow for important sewer separation work. The closure is expected to remain in place for approximately six to eight weeks as part of the City’s West End Sewer Separation and Watermain Replacement Project.

The closure will be in effect 24 hours a day, with vehicle and transit detours clearly marked. Bus routes #101 and #155 will be re-routed via Eighth Avenue, and some on-street parking in the area will be temporarily removed. Traffic control personnel and signage will be on site throughout the project to help guide drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians safely through the area.

While construction can be disruptive, this work is a key investment in renewing underground infrastructure and improving long-term service reliability for the neighbourhood. Residents are encouraged to allow extra travel time and follow posted detours during the project period.

More details, including a detour map and updates, are available on the City’s website.

A service called inQlusive Reach is making it easier for people to hire inclusive support and everyday services in a way that feels safe, respectful, and welcoming.

Their message is simple and powerful: everyone deserves support where they can feel comfortable being their TRUE SELF.

inQlusive Reach describes itself as a community-driven movement built to reduce isolation, build belonging, and provide practical help for members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and their allies. The idea is to make it easier to access help that feels affirming and supportive β€” whether someone needs assistance at home, someone to spend time with, or help getting out and about.

Support services offered through inQlusive Reach include:

🏠 Help Around the Home
Need an extra set of hands? This includes housekeeping support to help keep things clean and organized, plus kitchen assistants who can help with meal prep and treats.

β˜• Companionship and Quality Time
Sometimes the best support is simply having someone there. Companions can join you for coffee, conversation, a short walk, a game, or shared hobbies β€” helping you stay socially connected and active.

πŸš— Help When You’re On the Move
Travel companions can help you get to appointments or errands, whether you’re walking, taking transit, or traveling by car. They can also provide support during appointments if you want someone to stay with you.

πŸ›  Customized and Specialized Services
Not everything fits into a box, and inQlusive Reach understands that. They mention being able to accommodate support needs like tech help, pet assistance, snow removal, and more.

How it works

The platform highlights that helpers are pre-vetted, and users can view reviews and ratings, plus communicate directly using the platform β€” making it easier to find someone who feels like the right fit.

They also promote flexibility, with on-demand booking, no complicated contracts, and only a one-hour minimum to get started.
