With warmer weather encouraging more open windows, the New Westminster Police Department is reminding families to take extra precautions to keep young children safe at home.

According to safety experts, toddlers can easily fall through window screens if they lean against them, as screens are designed to keep insects out—not prevent falls. To reduce the risk of serious injuries, parents and caregivers are encouraged to install window safety devices that prevent windows from opening more than 10 centimetres and to keep furniture, planters, and other climbable objects away from windows and balcony railings.

Window and balcony falls are among the most preventable injuries affecting young children, particularly during the spring and summer months when windows are more likely to be left open.

A few simple safety measures can help families enjoy the warmer weather while keeping children safe at home.

On Sunday June 07, 2026 the game photo in our new game “How Well do you Know New West? was supposed to be Ho Fung Chinese Restaurant, my husband's favourite Chinese food restaurant here in New West. 😄

My husband took the photo as I was driving out of the Wendy's drive-thru. Unfortunately, I forgot to ask him to zoom in on Ho Fung’s. Plus, when John Mark, our graphic artist, built the graphic, I forgot to ask him to zoom in too.

In other words, I had two chances to fix this and missed both of them. 😂

The result? Our detectives identified Wendy's Drive-Thru, Ho Fung Chinese Restaurant, Mediterranean Donair, Annie's Dairy Bar, the KFC drive-thru, and just about every landmark visible from the driveway.

Some of the comments were priceless:

💬 "Wendy's Drive thru on the left and Mediterranean Donair on the right. Ho Fung Chinese straight ahead. That's 3 correct answers." – Julie Christie

💬 "There's always a genius with high beams in the opposite side on the KFC parking lot." – Mike Tibit

💬 "Wendy's…. I was part of the crew that opened that location." – Sherril Tabin Caouette

💬 "Wendy's drive through on the left, Donair place on the right, across at the blue awning is Annie's, yellow awning is Ho Fung Chinese, and the teeny tiny bit of red you can see, across and to the right is KFC."

The funny part is that the photo wasn't taken at any of those businesses. It was taken from the little hidden driveway coming out of the Wendy's drive-thru and aimed at Ho Fungs.

After reading the comments, we've decided that all answers will be accepted for this one. 🏆

If this week's clue taught us anything, it's that the detectives of New Westminster don't miss much. What was meant to be a photo of one business turned into a full street investigation.

The knowledge, attention to detail, and community spirit on display in the comments were amazing to see.

Well played, detectives.
