Walk through the door at Boorman Archery and something special happens — you’re not just a customer buying a bow. You’re stepping into a welcoming community eager to teach, support, and cheer you on at every target you take aim at. Bill and Steph, continue the family legacy their father began back in 1963, believed to be Canada’s oldest archery pro shop (est. 1964; incorporated 1966)

The story begins in a shed in the backyard, where the shop grew to the point that customers were showing up at suppertime. Eventually, due to the need for less foot traffic during bedtime — the business was moved to a storefront. Sixty years later, Boorman Archery is still proudly rooted in New Westminster and continuing to grow with the community.

More Than Sales — They Teach You How to Shoot

Some shops might hand you a brand-new bow and send you home to figure things out on your own. Not here. At Boorman Archery, every purchase includes hands-on instruction so customers feel confident and comfortable before walking out the door. “I don’t want anybody to leave not knowing anything,” says Bill. Whether it’s a longbow, recurve, compound, or crossbow, they’ll size, fit, and guide you every step of the way.

They offer:

Group lessons
Private lessons
Youth programs
Corporate team-building experiences
Summer & winter camps

They’ve even had groups of 25 rotate through the shooting line like excited athletes — and the smiles that come with hitting those first bullseyes are what fuels this team’s passion.

A Destination Experience for All Skill Levels

Archery isn’t one-size-fits-all — and that’s exactly why big-box stores can’t compare. Bill and Steph take into account each person’s body mechanics, past injuries, and comfort level. They’ve spent years finding specialized equipment for clients of all shapes and sizes — even seven-foot-tall archers!

Here, nobody gets rushed. Nobody gets judged. And most importantly, nobody feels embarrassed for not knowing where to start. They believe every new archer deserves a great first experience — because a bad one might mean never picking up a bow again.

A Family Legacy Focused on Youth and Community

Their father didn’t do this for money — he did it for his love of the sport and the joy that comes from watching people grow. He helped champion kids’ archery programs across the country, inspiring participation all the way into the millions in the U.S. today.

Today, that same mission carries on:

Share the love of archery
Welcome new generations into the sport
Build a community where everyone feels they belong

What They Want You To Know

Boorman Archery wants people to know they’re here — still here — and ready to help you begin your journey. Their website is undergoing updates, so the best way to get started is to call and book your time. Because safety matters, range times and lessons are scheduled over the phone to ensure every archer is properly supported.

Whether you’re a curious New West local, a parent looking for a unique activity for your kids, or someone who’s always wanted to try archery — this multi-generation legacy shop is the place to begin.

Take Aim — Your Adventure Awaits

Step inside and discover why customers from across the Lower Mainland — and even beyond — make the trip to this welcoming hub of skill, tradition, and heart. Try something new, challenge yourself, and become part of a true New West legacy.

🎯 At Boorman Archery, you don’t just learn to shoot a bow — you join a family.

Celebrate the season of giving while helping families live without fear.

A 16-year-old was taken into custody on November 7 after a 9-1-1 caller reported seeing a youth with what appeared to be a firearm near Columbia SkyTrain Station. The witness told dispatchers the youth had picked up the weapon after it fell to the ground and tucked it into the waistband of his pants.

Officers responded immediately, located a teen matching the description, and arrested him safely and without incident. Upon inspection, the firearm turned out to be a replica.

Police continue to investigate and are reminding the public that replica and imitation firearms pose significant risks when displayed in public. Officers treat all firearm-related calls as genuine until proven otherwise, which can lead to dangerous situations and potential criminal consequences.

The NWPD encourages residents to report suspicious or concerning behaviour right away and strongly discourages the use or display of replica firearms in public spaces.
