Creativity, collaboration, and youth leadership took center stage through the Woven Futures initiative, a program designed to empower young people to explore innovative ideas while building meaningful community connections.
Woven Futures brings together students, mentors, and community partners to collaborate on creative projects that encourage problem-solving, sustainability, and leadership. Through workshops, mentorship, and hands-on learning, participants are given the opportunity to develop their ideas and share their perspectives on shaping a better future.
The program is made possible through a strong network of partners. The initiative was developed through a collaboration between MOSAIC, Simon Fraser University (SFU), the REACH Initiative, and the school districts of New Westminster and Burnaby. Funding support comes from the Rideau Hall Foundationβs Catapult Canada Grant, helping bring together communities to celebrate creativity, connection, and youth leadership.
Beyond the projects themselves, Woven Futures highlights the power of young voices and the importance of giving the next generation space to innovate and lead. By connecting education, community organizations, and mentorship, the program creates opportunities for students to turn ideas into action.
As participants present their work and share what theyβve learned, the message is clear: when communities invest in youth creativity and collaboration, the possibilities for the future are limitless.
Calling all artists! The Uptown Business Association is inviting creatives from across British Columbia to submit design proposals for the 2026 Uptown Banner Run β a vibrant public art program that transforms Uptown streets with bold, eye-catching artwork.
Selected designs will be featured on approximately 48 street poles throughout Uptown New Westminster, giving artists a unique opportunity to showcase their work in one of the cityβs busiest neighbourhoods.
The call is open to all B.C.-based artists, with preference given to artists from New Westminster. Artists who applied to the previous 2025/2026 banner call are also encouraged to submit again.
If youβve ever wanted to see your art brighten the streets and be enjoyed by thousands of residents and visitors, nowβs your chance.
π Submission deadline: June 1, 2026
