Aspiring writers have a little more time to put their stories on the page. The Royal City Literary Arts Society (RCLAS) has extended the submission deadline for its 2026 Write On Contest, giving local writers an extra opportunity to enter their work.

The new deadline is October 15, 2026.

The annual contest invites writers to share their creativity and showcase their work, making the deadline extension welcome news for anyone who has been working on an entry but needs a little more time to polish it.

Writers interested in participating should review the contest information and submission requirements before entering. RCLAS notes that it does not currently accept e-transfers, with PayPal payment options available for both members and non-members.

With the extended deadline now approaching, there’s still time to revisit that unfinished story, tighten up a poem or put the finishing touches on a submission.

October 15 is the new date to have your entry ready.

Starting fresh in Canada can come with plenty of financial questions—from choosing a bank account to understanding credit, paycheques and taxes. A new Financial Literacy session at New Westminster Public Library is designed to help newcomers build confidence with the Canadian financial system.

The session takes place Thursday, September 24, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Main Branch Auditorium, 716 Sixth Avenue, with an option to participate online through Zoom.

Participants will explore practical money-management basics, including how to choose banking services, safely use debit and credit cards, manage money and build a credit history.

The session will also explain common terms found on pay statements, why payroll deductions are taken, and when and how to file an annual income tax return.

There will also be an opportunity to ask questions and access useful resources, including information about where to find additional support and guidance.

The presentation is intended for new arrivals to Canada and will be offered live in person and online. It will not be recorded, and registered participants will receive the Zoom link.
