A local community group in New Westminster is calling for yarn donations to support their ongoing work creating handmade items for those in need.
Based out of the Queensborough Community Centre, this volunteer group brings together people who knit and crochet items like hats, gloves, socks, blankets, and baby garments — many of which are donated to shelters and community organizations.
They are currently looking for yarn donations, ideally three spools or more, though all contributions are welcome.
🧵 Get Involved
The group meets every Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., offering a welcoming space for anyone interested to:

Pick up basic knitting or crochet skills
A few beginner spots are available each week for those who want to learn.
Beyond crafting, the group also sells some handmade items to support their efforts and donates proceeds to local food programs during the holidays.
A meaningful community event is returning to the waterfront this spring.
On Sunday, May 3, residents are invited to take part in the River Walk for Hospice, a gentle 2 km walk along the boardwalk at Westminster Quay in support of the New West Hospice Society.
This annual gathering offers a chance to honour loved ones, connect with others, and support compassionate care in the community.
The morning begins with registration at 10:00 a.m., followed by music and a welcoming atmosphere. Opening remarks will take place at 11:00 a.m., with the walk beginning shortly after.
Participants can join as individuals or teams, and those interested can also help raise funds toward hospice care in New Westminster.
📍 Location: 810 Quayside Drive (Westminster Quay)
🕙 Time: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
💲 Cost: Free
Whether you walk in memory, in support, or simply to be part of the community, this event is a chance to come together with purpose and heart.
