Students Asked to Reimagine the Future of Workplace Safety

Got a big idea that could make workplaces safer for young people? High school students are being invited to put their creativity and problem-solving skills to the test through the 2026 Make It Safe Youth Challenge, taking place this fall in New Westminster.

The challenge encourages students to explore workplace safety through a youth perspective while competing for cash prizes worth up to $2,500 for the winning student and $2,000 for their school.

This year's theme, "Safety Through a Youth Lens," asks participants to consider issues such as how employers can better listen to young workers, how technology could improve workplace safety, and why some young employees may hesitate to speak up about concerns.

Students can submit their ideas in the form of a poster, PowerPoint presentation, or short video, making the challenge accessible to aspiring designers, storytellers, innovators, and future leaders alike.

The event takes place on October 7 at Anvil Centre in New Westminster, where participants will also have opportunities to connect with employers, explore workplace safety exhibits, and learn about future career pathways.

The students of New Westminster Secondary School are ready to steal the spotlight! The NWSS Dance Department returns to Massey Theatre on June 17 with its annual dance showcase, Dancespicable Me.

Featuring performances from talented student dancers, the show highlights months of dedication, creativity, and hard work while celebrating the diverse styles and artistic expression found within the school's dance program. Audiences can expect an entertaining evening filled with energy, movement, and performances that showcase the passion and talent of New Westminster's next generation of performers.

The annual production has become a community favourite, giving students the opportunity to perform on a professional stage while sharing their achievements with family, friends, and supporters.

Whether you're a dance enthusiast, a proud supporter of local arts education, or simply looking for an inspiring night out, Dancespicable Me promises an evening packed with creativity and school spirit.
